Remember when broadband giant BT recently decided to revive their BT Mobile brand, partly reversing a prior shift to focus on EE? Well it seems somebody at Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) may have decided to take a leaf out of that book, with a new report claiming that VMO2 could soon resuscitate the Virgin Mobile and also O2 Broadband brands too.

The original Virgin Mobile brand effectively became defunct in 2023 after VMO2 decided to migrate all 3 million of the service’s customers over to primary group mobile operator O2, which occurred roughly a year after the virtual operator (MVNO) had shifted customers off Vodafone’s network.

The move made some sense given the prior merger between Virgin Media and O2. But it still came as a surprise because it had originally been expected that the Virgin Mobile brand, which up until then had a long and moderately successful history in the mvno market, would be retained.
