The UK Government has today announced that Abingdon-based broadband ISP Gigaclear has completed their £8.2m (public subsidy) Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contract for 3,880 premises in hard-to-reach parts of North Oxfordshire (Lot 13.02), which is said to have been achieved “four months ahead of schedule“.
Just to recap. The original Project Gigabit contract for Lot 13.02 was announced all the way back in November 2023 (here), which occurred jointly alongside the complementary South Oxfordshire (Lot 13.01) contract under the same Government programme. At the time, both were said to be aiming for build completion in Autumn 2026, although Lot 13.01 is currently running a little bit behind the pace of Lot 13.02.
The original Lot 13.02 deal actually contracted Gigaclear to reach 4,900 premises, although it’s gone through a few changes since then and the latest September 2026 update from the Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) unit reported that Lot 13.02 was still contracted to deliver 4,180 premises and had so far completed 3,880 (i.e. 93% completion). So we assume it’s scope has been reduced again over the past month in order to hit 100% now (such changes are usually due to the expansion of commercial coverage by rival networks).
