Another day brings the launch of yet another new eSIM based virtual UK mobile operator (mvno) to the market, this time called MyCharity Mobile. As usual they’ve come up with a semi-unique selling point, which enables customers to donate to any charity of their choice while paying for their mobile plan (15p from every £1 spent).
The new service is being powered by mobile solutions from Tekmoni and the eSIM Go platform. Customers of the service are offered a choice of three core mobile plans, none of which look to be terribly special (outside of the charitable donations side). The first plan costs £5 per month for 3GB of data (mobile broadband), unlimited calls and texts on a rolling monthly contract, which rises to £10 for 10GB and then £15 for 50GB.
MyCharity Mobile says this approach provides a “seamless, zero-risk fundraising mechanism” for recurring revenue. Supporters simply switch their mobile provider to MyCharity Mobile, while the charity gains a recurring revenue stream. For every £1 spent by a supporter on their mobile plan, 15p is donated directly to their chosen charity.
